Meter Reader safety

We strive to provide you with an accurate and timely utility bill. Accuracy begins with safely reading your meter every month. We contract with other companies to read your meter. Meter readers are easily identified by the uniform shirts and badges they wear.

You can help us provide reliable utility service. Take a few minutes to look at the area around your meter and assure that the meter readers have safe and unobstructed access. Following the steps below will help.

1. Locate your meter.

2. Determine if there is a safe and direct path to your meter that is free of obstructions such as debris, overgrown trees or bushes.

3. Enture that there are no holes or objects in the path to the meter that may cause the reader to trip, slip or fall.

4. Take extra precaution to secure your dog to ensure that it cannot break loose and bite the meter reader.

If you believe you are unable to provide safe access to your meter every month, please contact us at 225-665-4356 so we can work together to resolve the issue.

Dog bite prevention

Meter readers must feel comfortable and safe before entering your property. Experience shows that dogs may behave more aggressively when their owners are nearby. For their safety, meter readers remain outside of your property until your dog is properly secured. If a dog approaches, readers may protect themselves by using dog spray or other deterrent devices, if they fear the dog is about to bite. If you have a dog you believe could pose a threat to meter readers, please contact us at 225-665-4356 to determine a safe method to read your meter each month.
